Rock music has had a love affair with cars since the very beginning… literally. For “Rocket 88,” a song widely considered to be the very first entry into the rock ‘n’ roll genre, writers Jackie Brenston and Ike Turner chose a car as their central lyrical focus. In addition to drawing upon the iconography of the sports car in their work, rock stars have long driven truly exceptional automobiles, and the spikey-haired and gravelly-voiced Rod Stewart is certainly no exception.

Behold, his 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 S currently up for sale through Sotheby’s auction house in London. As the original owner of this vehicle, Stewart offered it up for photo shoots with his model girlfriend and prepared it for an abandoned cover feature for Car Magazine. One of the few right-hand-drive P400 S Miuras on the market, this car is going to the auction block after a fresh and painstakingly authentic restoration by Lamborghini Polo Storico.
