Red Hill Farm House by Carr

It’s a common problem in any commercial market or artistic arena: how much should you flow with the strong tide of prevailing style, and in what ways should you swim against the current to make the definitive statement that will set you apart from the crowd? The most successful creations and innovations are the ones that perform this delicate balancing act with the greatest aplomb.
The Australian architecture firm Carr has achieved such harmony and equilibrium with its Red Hill Farm House. Located roughly an hour south of Melbourne in small rural community of Red Hill, Victoria, the Red Hill Farm House sits in the midst of a vast bucolic landscape defined by livestock-dotted pastures and farm buildings.
Defined by its decidedly utilitarian frame, the Red Hill Farm House most assuredly speaks the architectural vernacular of the region. However, it defines itself assertively through its distinctive creasing, bending, and pleated roofline.
