Off-Grid Guest House by Anacapa

Located within a wildlife preserve near Santa Barbara, the entirely self-sustaining Off-Grid Guest House features a rooftop planted with native grasses.

As green architects and homebuilders continue to strive for the ideal structure that can exist in absolute harmony with the environment that surrounds it, few have accomplished more than the Santa Barbara architectural firm Anacapa. Behold, its Off-Grid Guest House.

Located within a wildlife preserve just outside of Santa Barbara, the Off-Grid Guest House occupies some of the last undeveloped coastal real estate in Central California. Literally “off the grid,” this residence is entirely self-sustaining with a rooftop solar power system and on-site water supply/sewage treatment. It was very important to the client that Anacapa employ the very latest in low-impact architectural design and ecologically conscious infrastructure.

The Off-Grid Guest House also honors the environment in the aesthetic sense. In fact, it virtually disappears within it. Nestled into the side of a hill, the home features a rooftop planted with native grasses, muted tones of wood, and plenty of clear glass.
