Created in homage to Arnold Schwarzenegger — the Austrian bodybuilder come action movie star come politician — Schwarzenegger’s story is as almost unbelievable as this stool that bears his likeness. Growing up in a tiny village in Austria, the young Schwarzenegger was told he would never fulfill his dream of becoming a famous Hollywood star, his accent was too foreign his proximity to Tinseltown too far. Yet he did the impossible, becoming one of the world’s most iconic action movie stars. He then went on to marry into the Kennedys, still one of America’s greatest political dynasties, and then became governor of California with zero public office experience. His story is nothing short of miraculous, attacking life with a perseverance and tenacity that lead him to succeed in the most unlikely and unexpected of situations.
In honor of Schwarzenegger’s enduring legacy, Harow has captured the star in all his glory in both a figurative and intuitive model of his face. Made of a steel reinforced piece of fiberglass, the stool relies on the techniques of traditional sculpture to build a 3D model of the icon. The piece is sculpted from one block and then formed in polyester resin. A painstaking fettling, polishing, and tinting process follows to deliver a captivating and certainly unique piece of furniture.
