Movies We're Seeing this Spring
Go to Top

With winter coming to an end and spring finally showing signs of arrival, we can’t wait to shake off the winter doldrums and head to the nearest theater. Fortunately, the Spring 2017 movie season is packed with quality films across genres. Here are the 10 movies we are most looking forward to seeing this spring.

Life

This sci-fi horror/thriller places lead actors, Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson and Ryan Reynolds in the entirely unenviable position of making first contact with alien life on Mars.

As the crew researches this historic discovery, it becomes increasingly clear that the discovered life forms are intelligent and terrifying in ways the crew could not have imagined. Life was released March 24, 2017.

Kong: Skull Island

While a reboot of King Kong may seem like a campy and silly idea, a good monster flick is always a great way to ratchet up the action to 11. With Kong: Skull Island, director Jordan-Vogt Roberts is embracing the camp, setting the film in a post-Vietnam era that delivers bits of comedy with the non-stop monster action.

Heavyweight actors like Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, John Goodman and John C. Reilly have signed on for good measure, ensuring Kong will be one hell of a ride when the crew makes its way to Kong's monster-infested island in the pacific. The film came out March 10, 2017.

The Fate of the Furious

If you thought you had seen the end of the "Furious" franchise after the tragic and unexpected death of Paul Walker, think again. Vin Diesel and Co. have signed on for film number eight in the franchise's storied history.

Fans who want to see Dom and his crew fire up the engines for at least one more ride will have the chance to do so starting April 14, 2017.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

That's right, Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon and Groot are back for more in the sequel to Marvel's 2014 smash hit. Moviegoers fell in love with the film's nod to 80's nostalgia, pitch perfect comedic tone and mesmerizing action.

This time, family drama will be at the core of the plot, with Nebula making an awaited return, while Star-Lord could potentially find himself reunited with his long-lost father.

Expect another incredible trek through the galaxy when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 comes out May 5, 2017.

T2 Trainspotting

Yet another highly anticipated sequel in our list, T2 Trainspotting is a sequel fans have been hoping to see for what has been literal decades. T2 will hit theaters just over 20 years after the original film, which was a dark comedy that followed a heroin addict and his group of friends.

Instead of pressing the red "Reset" button for the sequel, the film seeks to highlight the natural evolutions of main character Mark Renton and his circle of friends. Twenty years after the fact, it will be fascinating to find out whether the sequel recaptures some of the magic while being able to stand on its own as a classic film in its own right.

Check out our review of the film, out now.

Power Rangers

If you are anything like us, the 90's has a special place in your heart. Power Rangers is the reimagining of the beloved 90's TV series, which told the story of five teenagers who save the world from an evil alien nemesis.

Tap into the goodness of 90's nostalgia when the film came out on March 24, 2017.

Ghost in the Shell

It is not often that Hollywood chooses to make a big-budget film based on a Japanese anime and manga, but that is precisely what audiences will get with Ghost in the Shell. The anime, and now film, follows The Major, a human/cyborg hybrid who helms an elite task force dedicated to battling extremists looking to wipe out advanced AI technology.

While there has been controversy over the casting of Scarlett Johansson, with critics calling this another example of "whitewashing" in Hollywood, we are still intrigued to see how the live action anime turned out. Ghost in the Shell comes out March 31, 2017.

CHIPS

If the majority of the films on our list are too serious for your liking, kick back and relax with a fresh take on a classic comedy. Dax Shepard and Michael Peña star as California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers in this hilariously off-beat reboot of the 1970s "buddy cop" TV series.

Enjoy the laughs when CHIPS hit theaters March 24, 2017.

Gifted

If you are looking for a move that will tug on the heartstrings this spring, look no further than Gifted. Chris Evans stars as a single father who is fighting for custody of his intellectually gifted seven-year-old niece (played by McKenna Grace).

The anticipated drama film that explores the intricacies of a parent-child relationship amid an embroiled custody dispute will release on April 12, 2017.

Beauty and the Beast

Disney's "tale as old as time" was an instant animated classic beloved by millions, but never before has the story been told in live action. Enter Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the beast in this highly anticipated live-action reboot that is set to shatter box office records as the fastest-selling family film in history.

In this classic love story, Belle is taken away to the Beast's castle where she is held prisoner before discovering the Beast's humanity that is hidden by his terrifying visage. From the enchanting vistas to the timeless characters and unforgettable musical numbers, audiences of all ages will likely find this film worth the price of admission. Beauty and the Beast hit theaters March 17, 2017.
