Quarry House by Ramon Esteve Estudio

Quarry House is built upon the foundational belief that the landscape can be embraced and used to create a visually stunning home.

The hills of Valencia often present architectural challenges that few are ready to face. Ramon Esteve Estudio is a man not afraid to back down from the extreme conditions and chose to build a home that strategically works with the natural conditions to obtain the best views of the surrounding landscape. The Quarry House is a series of overlapping boxes. It might sound like a simple design, but the result is a home that would make any neighbor envious.

The home settles into the mountain and isolates itself form direct surroundings to create its own unique universe — a universe that is home to panoramic views of the sea, a horizon filtered swimming pool, and the Mediterranean forest. The upper portion of the home embraces the fluidity of a tranquil sea to contain all of the daily used areas. The interior of the home extends to the pool and terrace, which are simultaneously connected to the house and the landscape.

An entire reinforced glass front façade offers expansive views. When viewed from the ground the home appears to open up like a mountainous cavern, effusing light to create a feeling of tranquility and transparency. Throughout the home raw materials have been used to produce a tectonic character. Through volcanic onyx and yellow onyx, Quarry House truly lives up to its name. Without becoming Icarus, this stunning home invites inhabitants to reach for the heavens, while simultaneously looking towards the earth and all of the beauty that it has to offer.
